Lanzarote to Host the 2027 Optimist World Championship

A Dream Come True

We are thrilled to share the incredible news that Marina Rubicón in Lanzarote has been chosen to host the 2027 Optimist World Championship. This is a historic milestone for our island and for everyone who has worked tirelessly to promote Lanzarote as a world-class sailing destination.

The decision was announced during the IODA AGM, where Ricardo Navarro was elected as the new President of the International Optimist Dinghy Association. During this meeting, it was confirmed that Lanzarote will welcome the best young sailors from around the globe in 2027 for the pinnacle event in Optimist sailing.

This achievement is the result of years of dedication, vision, and teamwork. Bringing the Optimist Worlds to Lanzarote has always been one of our dreams. We believe in the potential of this island to offer perfect sailing conditions, a welcoming community, and an unforgettable experience for sailors, coaches, families, and supporters alike.

We are extremely proud of everyone who has contributed to this journey – from local authorities, sailing federations and sailing clubs to coaches, parents, and volunteers. It is through true collaboration that we can make such dreams a reality.

Hosting the World Championship will inspire a new generation of sailors in Lanzarote and the Canary Islands. It is a unique opportunity to showcase our commitment to youth sailing, to share our passion with the world, and to continue growing as a strong, united sailing community.

We cannot wait to welcome the Optimist family to our island in 2027. See you in Lanzarote!
